When planning for a portrait session most people want some advice about what to wear. There are many schools of thoughts and options, depending on the design of the final image. In this post I will discuss clothing ideas for a single person headshot.

The basic simple guidelines are as follows:

Keep it simple – solid color, long sleeves , classic neckline and proper fit.

Solid color: Patterns will be distracting and take the viewers eyes from your face. The best colors are from the cool palette which will contrast with the warmth of your skin tone. Best colors are blue, green, brown and grey. Please avoid bright eye catching colors like orange, yellow and red. There are some in between colors which may work depending on your complexion and the background chosen for the session. Black is OK and white can be used with a “high key” background.

Long sleeves are always a good choice. Your shoulder’s will often be pointed toward the camera, and for several reasons should remain covered. If you prefer, short sleeves are acceptable, but not as versatile.

Your neckline is the base for the headshot. A classic v-neck can provide a nice angular lead in for the viewer. If you are self conscious about the appearance of your neck, then a turtle neck, buttoned color, scarf or a necktie, are all good alternatives.

Of course all clothes should be clean, pressed, and well fitting for a polished look.

That being said, please bring an outfit that you just love to wear. Even if it breaks all the rules above, you should wear something that just makes you feel good.

Of course the intention going into the portrait is a key factor. If you want a professional image and normally wear a suit to work , please show up dressed for work. If you want to use some of the images for a personal profile like Facebook or on a dating site, then bring along some casual clothes as well. If you are involved in an artistic field, feel free get creative.

So that about it. If you have any questions call or email David. david@davidmarcphoto.com or 303-330-0202.

We shot photos for her various blog sites and profiles.

To meet Andrea Constantine is like coming in contact with an enchanting flower–to hear her speak, feels as though you’re talking with one of your closest friends. She’s not afraid to be herself in her open and truthful manner and if that means sharing difficult stories, she simply makes her presentation that much more endearing and powerful. It’s easy to remember Andrea in light of her vulnerable stories that weave into our collective consciousness.

As an inspirational coach and mentor, she creates workshops that encourage you to integrate passion, spirituality and a sense of purpose in your business. It’s easy to see how her ideas directly connect with life and an opening of one’s heart. As a coach, her strength is to see beyond, to find the hidden beauty within her clients’ professional and personal lives and integrate it with a sense of passion. Her desire is to work with clients who are spiritually-minded and action oriented in terms of going for the gusto with all of your heart and soul. Authenticity is what she is all about and her expectations for her clients are high–as someone who walks her talk, her vision for you is that you will learn to walk your own talk, as well.

Lisa is a social networker extraordinaire, who is involved in many groups and a shaker and mover in the networking business.

In January of 2008, Lisa Shultz birthed her women’s group, Women, Wine and Wellness. Inspired by the idea of women connecting and motivating one another, she wove together sharing a drink of wine with women who want to network while enjoying one another’s company. Building community is the brick and mortar of Lisa’s group in her intention to help empower women open to learning and transforming in their professional and personal lives.

Among Lisa’s list of published books, her latest endeavor, Speaking Your Truth: Courageous Stories from Inspiring Women is a manuscript in progress and a compilation of stories from women of all walks of life. Lisa calls herself a “difference maker” and she is dedicated to being a service mentor model; the book project fits in with this goal. She co-edited the book with friend and fellow coach, Andrea Constantine.

As a single mom of two daughters, Lisa lives and works in Englewood, Denver, where she was born and raised. Her focus is being the best possible role model for her daughters, an “idea leader” in the networking community and creating a more visionary world.
